Water leak closes lobby of Clearwater Municipal Services Building

Video from the city showed a jet of water coming out of the ceiling.

CLEARWATER, Fla. — The City of Clearwater Municipal Services Building got its own downpour on Tuesday as scattered thunderstorms brought heavy rain to the Tampa Bay area.

An unexpected water leak from the building’s ceiling forced the lobby to close temporarily. The city says morning showers were the source of the leak that saturated the lobby.

Video from the city shows broken ceiling tiles on the floor of the building and a stream of water coming from where they once stood.

“City services remain open and you can do business online or over the phone,” the city tweeted.

Heavy rain fell on the Nature Coast throughout the morning with more scattered showers and thunderstorms closer to Tampa Bay. 10 Grant Gilmore of Tampa Bay says the chance of rain will remain relatively high in the area for most of the day.
