CITY OF COTABATO – Mamasapano town hall in Maguindanao was closed after one of its employees tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Mayor Akmad Ampatuan Jr. said on Wednesday that the local interagency Covid-19 task force has initiated the disinfection and decontamination process to ensure that the facility where more than 100 municipal workers perform their duties is virus-free. .

The result of the infected employee’s reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction was released on Tuesday.

“Basic services to our customers will continue with our staff working from home during a seven-day isolation,” Ampatuan said.

He informed his constituents that all barangay governments are functioning in Mamasapano and that issues that can be dealt with at the barangay level are best referred to village officials.

Mamasapano has 15 villages with some 26,000 inhabitants according to the 2020 population census.

“The closure of the town hall is temporary, business transactions can be done online or customers can wait until Tuesday, October 19,” said the mayor.

Ampatuan noted that Monday October 18 is a Muslim holiday in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao, as Muslims commemorate “Maulidin Nabi” or the birth of Prophet Mohammad.

The mayor advised his constituents to check with officials in their village or visit the Facebook page of the local government unit. (ANP)
