Go online or call ahead for municipal services – Chemainus Valley Courier

Members of the public requiring city services are encouraged to go online or call ahead. New measures are in place to keep staff and visitors to the Municipal Hall safe during the recent COVID-19 Omicron wave, including alternating staffing and restricting in-person meetings.

Since the start of the pandemic, North Cowichan has improved its online service options. This includes online credit card payments for new or renewed dog licenses, business permits, building permits, and trash recycling schedules.

Board meetings, which went virtual in 2020, now continue with hybrid virtual and in-person options. Council, staff and the public have the option to participate virtually or in person in council chambers. The public is encouraged during this wave of COVID-19 to use online options, including watching live meetings and participating in public consultation sessions by phone, computer or mobile device.

For those who must come to the municipal hall, people are encouraged to call ahead to ensure the availability of staff and to make an appointment if necessary. Wearing a mask and physical distancing are mandatory inside the town hall.

North Cowichan has adjusted work and staffing schedules to minimize staff contact and avoid service disruptions due to COVID exposure. Physical distancing precautions and cleaning protocols have been reinforced and all staff have been encouraged to get vaccinated.
